When was Regis added to the name?

[edit]

The "Bugger Bognor" section suggests it was sometime after 1929 but does not specify when. As it is so recent, surely the date must be known? Robertm25 (talk) 22:39, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The change of name took effect on 26 July 1929, as is now sourced in the text. Stortford (talk) 20:33, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sunniest place on the mainland claim

[edit]

Before anyone tries to revert my edit removing this claim, this is false. Here's Folkestone in Kent which is actually the sunniest weather station on the mainland: https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/location-specific-long-term-averages/u10fdeb7p

Outdated news articles from 2011 with false claims don't count as a valid source. GN10Gaming (talk) 08:58, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It maybe outdated sources but at least it states exactly what is claimed and in what period. The Banner talk 10:59, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It did, but it was untrue. Hence it got removed. A look at the official Met Office averages comparing Bognor Regis to Folkestone also proves the article false. GN10Gaming (talk) 11:44, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please check the period of the sources you removed. They are not the same between Bognor Regis and Folkestone. The Banner talk 12:15, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What period? Folkestone is sunnier in both the 1981-2010 averages and the 1991-2020 averages. Bognor Regis does hold the record for the most amount of sunshine recorded in one year in the UK (2,237 hours in 1990) but that's not what the article states.
You have also reverted my edits fixing the annual sums in the weather box according to the official Met Office averages, which you have failed to correct. GN10Gaming (talk) 12:38, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then:
Folkestone (1981-2010) - 1921.22 hours
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/location-specific-long-term-averages/u10fdkq1h
Bognor Regis (1981-2010) - 1920.84 hours
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/location-specific-long-term-averages/u10fdkq1h
Just accept that you're incorrect this time. GN10Gaming (talk) 12:40, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just waiting for you to revert your (incorrect) edits now. GN10Gaming (talk) 12:43, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just waiting for a source that explicitly says that Folkestone was the sunniest place in that period. Just comparing is WP:SYNTH. The encyclopedia needs a directs source that backs up the claim. The Banner talk 13:52, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Going by that logic, so does the unreliable news article. But that obviously doesn't provide a direct source, does it? GN10Gaming (talk) 14:05, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Either way, the source has been PROVED incorrect, so I should be able to remove it without the targeted harrassment and constant reverting. GN10Gaming (talk) 14:12, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How is it WP:SYNTH if I'm not including Folkestone being the sunniest location in the article? All I'm doing is getting rid of a source/claim that is obviously incorrect. Anyway, by repeatedly reverting back to edits with false information and unreliable sources, you are effectively contributing to misinformation on Wikipedia.GN10Gaming (talk) 14:13, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So, now you are edit warring and still there is no source for your claim. The Banner talk 16:11, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, I was merely removing a claim which was untrue. The fact that Folkestone was sunnier during both the 1981-2010 and 1991-2020 period comes from a reliable source (see the official Met Office links provided). It's better to get rid of false claims entirely rather than add information to the page about Folkestone being sunnier, which would be pointless. I haven't stated in the article that Folkestone is sunnier, so no source is needed. I have however disproved the claim about Bognor Regis being the sunniest station in mainland Britain by providing links to the official Met Office climate averages.GN10Gaming (talk) 16:55, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
